Biography

Luis Tinoco (b. 1969, Lisbon) made his First Degree in composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. He was then awarded with scholarships by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Centro Nacional de Cultura to complete a Masters degree in Composition at the Royal Academy of Music, in London. Presently, he's doing a PhD Music research at the University of York, with Prof. Nicola LeFanu.

Sond'Ar-te Ensemble premières "O Silêncio e as Pedras"

On the 12th of December | 9.30 p.m., at the Centro Cultural da Gandarinha, the Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble conducted by Pedro Amaral will have its début as the Cascais City Hall's Resident Ensemble.
In this concert the Sond'Ar-te will also give the World Première of O Silêncio e as Pedras, a new work for quintet and electronics commissioned to Luís Tinoco by the Miso Music Portugal.

The Drift of the Waters in Norwich

On the 29th and the 30th of November, in Norwich, the Galliard Ensemble will perform O Curso das Águas (The Drift of the Waters), for wind quartet.

O Curso das Águas can also be heard in the CD "Light-Distance", recorded by the Galliard Ensemble in 2004 for the label Deux-Elles.

(…) Reviewing the Galliard Ensemble’s debut disc on Meridian in May 2001, I was struck by the imaginative sonorities of Autumn Wind by Luís Tinoco (b. 1969). That piece also finds a place on this disc devoted entirely to Portuguese music, together with two more, equally inventive, quintets by the same composer, a Ligeti-like suite called Light – Distance and O curso das águas, a pair of studies in movement and stasis. Machina Mundi premieres new work for flute and percussion

The Machina Mundi - Katharine Rawdon (flute) and Elizabeth Davis (percussion) will give the World Première of King George I, as Seen in Schiaparelli's Telescope, Sailing his Barge upon Martian Canals
This concert is part of the São Carlos National Theatre 2008-09 Season, and will take place in the Auditório da Reitoria da Universidade Nova, in Lisbon, on the 18th of November - 07.00 p.m.
 
King George I, as Seen in Schiaparelli's Telescope... was commissioned by the Antena 2 to  be featured in a project coordinated by the RAI 3  and the EBU, to mark the 250th anniversary of Händel's death, on April 2009.
Together with other new works inspired by Händel's Water Music and commissioned by various European classical radios, the Machina Mundi will record Tinoco's new piece for a CD to be produced by the EBU.

Steel Factory performed at the Electricity Museum

On the 31st of October, at the Electricity Museum in Lisbon (10.00 p.m.), the Drumming Percussion Group will once again perform "Steel Factory" - for steel drums and multiple percussion.
