Luís Tinoco

He wrote and presented A Century’s Score - a 20th / 21st century music program for the Antena 2 / RTP-Portuguese Radio and Television Broadcast - from 2000 to 2003 -, and he is the author of The Geography of Sound, for the same radio, since 2004. Also for the RTP he is charge for the artistic direcion of the Young Musicians Prize, promoted by the Antena 2.

Since 1999, Tinoco has lectured Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.

His work has been performed and recorded on CD by the Arditti Quartet (Et’cetera); Galliard Ensemble (Meridian and Deux-Elles); Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (ATMA Classique); John Wallace / Royal Scottish Academy Brass, (Deux-Elles); Apollo Saxophone Quartet, (Quartz); QuadQuartet (Quad); Vintage Quartet (Vintage) and by Pedro Carneiro (Deux-Elles and Et’cetera). A CD devoted to his chamber works performed by the Ensemble Lontano, conducted by Odaline de La Martinez (Lorelt Records), was launched in November 2005 at the Purcell Room / South Bank Centre, in London.

Tinoco’s music has been commissioned and / or programmed by orchestras such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, Oporto National Orchestra, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Algarve Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Turin Philharmonic, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony Orchestra and the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.

Recentely, he has premiered Evil Machines, a music theatre project with libretto and stage direction by the former Monty Python Terry Jones, with costumes designed by Vin Burnham and choreography by Paulo Ribeiro.

Future projects include the composition of "Paint Me", a chamber opera with libretto by Stephen Plaice, to be premièred in Lisbon, at the Culturgest, in December 2010. "Paint Me", with music direction by Joana Carneiro, will be stage directed by Rui Horta.
